The Autoglass Approved Centre has achieved over 950 GQA Automotive Glazing national vocational qualifications. Many of the recipients are still employed by the company even though the first certificate was awarded in January 1991.
To deal with the technological changes relating to automotive glazing and the increase in workload, Autoglass has created its National Skills Centre based in Birmingham. The centre opened in July 2002 with over sixty invited guests to observe the services on offer. Current, up-to-date vehicles, provide a resource for training and assessment activities in addition to wall hung doors and sections of vehicle body shells. A training team of five provides courses from a half day to two weeks duration for a wide range of employees. Training is available for customer service skills, glass repair, direct glazed glass removed and replacement and opening glasses etc.
The Autoglass National Skills Centre is virtually fully booked for the whole of 2003 with an expected intake of over 700 learners. The spectrum of occupational roles of learners includes those in Administration, Automotive Glazing, Management and Supervision.
Their is a clear commitment to "Fitting Safety as Standard" and of linking training to the needs of the business on the NVQ occupational standards.
