Where are the Fastest Trains
Speedy trains will become an increasingly attractive means of transportation in a fuel conscious era. No nation has been more successful than Japan in making trains go faster, although France is certainly a competitor. Japan’s bullet trains reach speeds of 186 miles per hour (soon 200 mph) as they glide between Tokyo and Osaka, and elsewhere.
Recently, Japan has started to export its trains. Taiwan bought bullet trains from Kawasaki Heavy Industries two years ago. A consortium led by Hitachi has won preferred bidder status on a $10 billion contract to build and manage rolling stock up to 1,400 care over a 20 year period, along the coasts of England.
