The World’s Largest Vehicle Market Is China
China sold more than 13.5 million vehicles in 2009, according to the official Xinhua news agency, overtaking the United States to become the world’s largest car market. The final figure compared with annual sales of 10.4 million cars and light trucks in the United States, the lowest level in 27 years. It was also well above the 10 million vehicle sales that China had originally targeted for 2009, and has been attributed to government policy initiatives boosting demand.
