New Govt Plan Could Prevent Smashed Windscreens?

Road works that are not properly signposted can prove a danger to motorists and can lean to car damage such as smashed windscreens but new government plans aim to reduce this danger.

The proposals, published in March 2010 by transport minister Sadiq Khan, would see all information provided at all road works, including a contact telephone number and details of who is carrying out the works.

All roadwork sites would also have to meet high safety standards and tougher rules on safety for disabled people, which includes making sure sites are properly protected and that facilities are put in place to allow wheelchair users to move around them with ease.

“It is not acceptable for works to be badly signed, left in a dangerous state or put in place without a thought for the needs of road users, particularly people with disabilities,” said Mr Khan.

Recently the Department of Transport announced that Mr Khan had published plans which would see firms allowing their road works to overrun face penalties of up to £25,000.
