CSCS Scheme Update (April 2010)


The new CSCS scheme booklet (revision 12) lists the rules and criteria which apply to the scheme. The booklet can be downloaded or ordered from the CSCS website.

CSCS SKILL CARD - EXPERIENCED WORKER ROUTE (2010)

This route is for experienced worker whose occupation has closed for industry accreditation and have met current CSCS health and safety requirements.

A red experienced worker card is issued.

This card is valid for one year and is non-renewable.

The card is issued on a temporary basis, while a NVQ or SVQ is being achieved. It is expected to be replaced by a skilled card on achievement of NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or higher.

N.B: CSCS will also accept the relevant equivalent QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) qualification, providing it has NVQ in its title.

An Experienced Worker card cannot be replaced by a Construction Site Operative card.

All CSCS cards are priced at £30 (inc of VAT at 17.5%).

CSCS CARD RENEWALS

The procedure for renewal is:

- Six months before the expiry date of the card, a renewal letter will be sent to the applicant’s home address by CSCS

- The relevant Construction Skills Health and Safety test must be passed no more than two years before sending in the renewal form.

There is a six-month period of grace after the CSCS card has expired for the holder to renew it. After this time the cardholder ceases to be a member of the scheme. To be re-admitted to the scheme the applicant must:

- Make a new application for a card (Industry Accreditation will NOT be permitted where the card has expired for more than six months).
